-Reason for Contract-

Iodine grew up on the streets of Saint Mihnts since he was 8 as the child of a big family of illegal immigrants from a poorer country. Still they always took care of each other and his childhood was fairly carefree, as carefree as a life with being on the run and not having a proper home can be. They never were involved with underground activities and tried to stay away from any trouble, at least as far as Iodine knows.
However, things started to go downhill when his parents, his siblings and pretty much everyone from his family got caught by the government. They were taken away and probably deported back to their home country, that was at Civil War at the time and still is. Iodine was able to escape the same fate together with his oldest brother and stayed undetected since then. It was a harsh time for both of them, having lost most of their family but while he tried to keep going and clung on his only left sibling, his brother couldn’t handle it. He got addicted to gambling and quite a few drugs, losing all their money, making debts. In the end his brother got involved with the very wrong people and when his debt got too high he gave away Iodine as payment to the Syndicate. Since then he is working for them.

-Biography-

Iodine’s parents and many other members of his family arrived in Saint Mihnts 8 years after he was born, fleeing from war and poverty in their native country. They have planned this for a long time but it didn’t work out like they thought it did. When none of them got a residence permit rather than going back they learned how to hide and live on the streets of this big city.

Over the years he and his siblings were raised in different abandoned houses or sometimes even homeless, always on the move so the government won’t find them. Since everyone worked together they led a rather good life, compared to what might happen to them back home or how solitary homeless persons had to survive. The family was very very close and did not let strangers into their circle, thus they stayed far away from what one would call a normal day to day life. But Iodine was content as long as his relatives were with him and the same applied to them.

Iodine remembers his home country vividly, though his memories are not good ones. They may have had an actual house back there but there were always social unrests and when they fled even a full fledged war, so this house wasn’t nearly enough to prefer staying in his home country, not with all the things he saw and experienced there.

One time though they did return there when he was 14 to get more of his family out and into the safer streets of Saint Mihnts. Iodine doesn’t like to think back to this necessary trip and does not remember much anyways, all that matters was that they made it all back.

Because he could not visit a school with being illegal his siblings taught him the basics, for example how to calculate, read and write in both their mother tongue and in English. Learning is something he still greatly enjoys, even though he would never admit he likes something as nerdy as that. In reality he reads every book he can get his hands on though and would love to study another language.

He also learned how to survive on the streets and absolutely everything that is necessary connection with this. His personal strength was stealing and pocket picking combined with sham. When he was a kid he used his innocent look to not make himself suspicious, later he got more creative and for example acts blind and steals the belongings of people he walks into ‘by accident’ or simply clothes himself to look completely normal and not memorable. Besides stealing and shamming he also cared for his family by cooking for them tending to their wounds and generally looking out for their well-being. Of course everyone worked together and split their work so he had time for just being a kid and his hobbies too.

With these things and his family to fill his life he was very contempt until he was 16. Then his family got unwary or maybe just unlucky and they were found by the government. Only Iodine and his older brother Isaan were out at the time and his parents and siblings were caught out while they slept in their current home and taken away. He doesn’t know what happened to them but more likely than not they were deported.

Now alone with Isaan they tried to continue as before, hoping their family would be able to return and knowing they wouldn’t want them to follow. Iodine being the more thoughtful one and thus taking the leadership, even though he was younger. He heavily clung to his only left sibling who couldn’t handle the loss, even less then he did. Iodine tried to support and care for both of them but his brother not only couldn’t help but also started to get addicted to all kind of things, mainly pain killers and gambling. At first he didn’t notice, only how Isaan got more and more aggressive and his behavior changed with every passing day. In the end he was downright abusive. Still, Iodine stayed with him.

But when he did notice his siblings addiction it was already too late to help. Isaan was in The Syndicate’s debt and couldn’t pay. Thus he gave Iodine as payment, who more or less voluntarily agreed to help his brother, knowing no other way to save him. However he haven’t heard from him ever since.Iodine doesn’t earn much with this job, he mainly pays the arrears of his brother but actually it is still an improvement from his prior living condition. This is why he doesn’t simply leave the city. This and his search for his brother.

-Daily Life-

Iodine still lives on the streets, not trusting the safety false papers promise him, still always on the run and trying to stay undetected.

His homes change at least every second week and they vary from abandoned houses in bad districts, sleeping under bridges or in alley ways, crashing at places of people he tricked into liking him and from time to time the apartment of a family gone for holiday. If not having access to the latter he visits the Aluat daily to shower there and get warmed up.

He needs to be very organized and daily checks his stock and plans out what he needs to do. Steal money, shop, find a new shelter, tend to his wounds and gather things he needs. Besides these changing tasks he always cooks, takes care of body hygiene and checks the town for his brother.

He also always tries to have some free time too, time to read mainly, but also surf the Internet, go clubbing, learning or just lazing around.

He had this routine for years and still feels the jobs he gets by The Syndicate as a nuisance simply because they interfere with this routine. This is why he tries to get them over with as fast and as good as possible so he can put them to rest in his mind and concentrate on his actual and chosen life.

-Job Details-

Theft:
Iodine grew up stealing all kind of things. He can pickpocket with ease as well as shoplift. Opening locks but also sneaking in and out somewhere is absolutely no problem to him. He is stealthy in every aspect of his job, doesn’t want to get caught or even recognized at all, that’s why he can hide well. If he has to knock somebody out for whatever reason he does it by backstabbing and thus not being seen too. Sometimes he gets a bit reckless, since theft is one of the things he does being very spontaneous, always adjusting to the current situation, since it is part of his daily life.

Fraud & Smuggler:
He combines his ability to deceive others with being a Thief. His specialty is acting blind and has the equipment for it always with him, as it can help in all kind of situations. In general he can act being innocent and not a danger pretty well, as well as being cold. However he can’t control his emotions all too well really.

Doctor:
Since he survived on the street without being able to visit a doctor when he or someone close to him got sick he knows the basic of tending to wounds and sicknesses.

His moral qualms about all this are not all too high, as long as he doesn’t hurt the weak ones.
